The Global Communications team leads the storytelling function at VMware. We are a team of around 40 communications professionals spanning public relations, industry analyst relations, thought leadership campaigns, and executive and employee communications. PR Manager Overview

The Public Relations Manager will play a critical leadership role in creating, architecting, and implementing public relations and social media programs for VMware. The role will be key in generating awareness and understanding of VMware among key internal and external audiences, including traditional press, new media and influencers.

You will build interesting stories and media pitches that resonate with external stakeholders, helping VMware show up in new and interesting ways and working across the corporate and product PR teams to add story and asset development, media relations, and creative channel and content management. You will be part of a team driving high impact coverage and conversations while helping to manage VMware’s news flow.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage public relations for VMware’s core technology business units spanning cloud and software-defined data center (SDDC).

  • Curate relationships with influencers in technology and vertical outlets and explore new ways to earn media coverage for campaigns, product launches, partnerships and events.

  • Think creatively and bring new ideas on how to communicate VMware’s story with external public.

  • Collaborate with business unit executives to jointly develop external communications materials (press releases, blogs, media resources), including marketing, business development, analyst relations, internal communications and executives.

  • Keep a pulse on technology industries as a whole to bring insights and new ideas for influencer engagement campaigns.

  • Lead industry research to uncover trends, patterns and insights to drive communications programs.

  • Target audiences within key segments with news and campaign content creation.

  • Manage public relations agency and ensure that key metrics and goals are achieved.

  • Media train executives and spokespeople on best practices for press interviews.

  • Produce succinct reports highlighting key data for executives and business leads.

Requirements:

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent working experience.

  • 4-7 years’ experience in media relations, public relations or other communication fields

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple deadlines and tasks, including managing up to executives.

  • A command of media relations and their best practices.

  • Willing to travel.

  • Proficiency in using third-party software to monitor media conversations and analytics.

  • Past experience building media relationships, preferably in tech.

  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, as well as the ability to adopt the style, tone, and voice of our business' various types of content.

  • A dual-minded approach: You’re highly creative and an excellent writer but can also be process-driven, think scale, and rely on data to make decisions.
