About the Position

Reporting to the Director, College of Science Advising Center, the incumbent will work under general supervision to provide academic advising and related student services for undergraduates in the College of Science.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Guiding entering and continuing students through academic planning and successful paths to graduation Helping students find solutions for issues they may face, informing students about and authorizing students for relevant university services and resources Participating in College of Science Advising Center (CoSAC) programs, events, and projects, and advocating relevant constituents to address student needs. The incumbent will utilize a variety of advising strategies and academic support services to insure student retention and success through graduation.

Education and Experience

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job related field and two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field.

A master's degree in a job related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated experience providing academic advising to undergraduate students at a comprehensive public university or community college.

Experience working with and/or advising students in the Science disciplines (Biology, Chemistry, Math, etc.)

Experience working with diverse populations.

Master's in Counseling, Counselor Education, or Social Work

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of university policies, major, GE, university and system requirements for graduation.

Effective communication skills particularly with diverse populations

Knowledge of current student success practices

Ability to work collaboratively with others.

Good attention to details

Ability to adhere to strict confidentiality and other ethical standards

Effective presentation skills
