What you’ll be doing….

The Database teams at Tableau are responsible for building and enhancing a highly optimized world class analytic storage & processing engine powering all of Tableau’s industry-leading products for helping people see and understand Data.

In this critical leadership role in the Technology Development organization, you will be the leading force in defining, delivering, operating, and evolving the foundational Data platform technologies. This spans from connectivity to disparate data sources, to query pipeline, query optimization and data engine includingHyper. We are challenging assumptions and leveraging new technology breakthrough and looking for a create leader to lead us on that journey. You and your team will directly influence the company’s product direction and deliver innovative software and services to over 57,000+ customer organizations.

Some of the things you’ll be doing include….

  • Establishing a long-term vision and roadmap for the team and define 1-3 year strategy.

  • Deliver customer-delighting, ground-breaking new functionality for Tableau.

  • Work with others across the support and sales to align and leverage efforts

  • Build a strong distributed team across US, Germany, and Canada by bringing out the best in our current team members, by hiring excellent new hires, and by aligning efforts and running successful projects.

  • Manage and partner with other strategy area leaders across Tableau’s entire dev organization

  • Design and be involved in the implementation, execution, delivery and logistics as well as the program management aspects

  • Actively help solve our engineering and research challenges and achieve breakthroughs.

  • Demonstrate strong personal values and a commitment to our mission and customers.

Our ideal candidate for this role will have:

  • History of success in Database leadership roles, with demonstrated leadership in productizing Database technologies.

  • Proven ability to define a clear vision and roadmap that is challenging, but achievable and motivating to your team.

  • Strong staff management and organizational skills

  • Strong influence skills at the senior leadership level

  • Strong work ethic; self-directed and resourceful; self-starter who acts with initiative and is pro-active

  • 10+ years of management experience

  • 5+ years in a Database leadership role

  • 5+ years’ experience in at least third-level management (two or more layers of managers reporting to you)

  • 2+ years experience working across multiple offices – in our case, within the US, Germany and Canada.
