Oracle Senior User Experience Designer - Oracle Hospitality in Sunnyvale, California

Responsible for creating, evaluating and modifying prototypes to support evolving hardware and software application development.

As a member of the User Experience team, you will develop and apply software design/usability processes in the investigation of technical problems. May develop user profiles, with emphasis on human error control, display issues, visual interaction, physical manipulation and task and objective analyses. Provide product usability, evaluation and support to product development teams, including the analysis and investigation of applications/systems including tactile methods, visual graphics, web, multimedia, voice response and conversational user interaction. May assist in developing design concept and implementation, providing input on user design considerations. May produce specifications describing user needs and internal structures for product in development.

Duties and tasks are varied and complex utilizing independent judgment. Fully competent in own area of expertise. May have project lead role and or supervise lower level personnel. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area. Typically four years of software engineering or related experience needed.

Work is non-routine and very complex, involving the application of advanced technical/business skills in area of specialization. You will act as a lead contributor individually and as a team member, provide direction and mentor others. BS or MS degree or equivalent experience relevant to functional area is required. Typically several years of enterprise-level software design or similar experience is appropriate.

*Responsibilities


The Designer will work closely with the other members of the Product team to understand, drive and shape product thinking.

Specifically, the Designer will:

Be responsible for a significant portion of the product s UX/UI

Work closely with project stakeholders and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure that product requirements are translated into highly usable and compelling designs

Develop detailed deliverables that effectively communicate the product design requirements using various techniques e.g. wireframes, process flows, style and pattern guides, etc. to demonstrate the desired functionality, content, navigation, and interactions

Work directly with customers where appropriate, to understand customer tasks and ensure ease of use and alignment with customer mental models

Participate in user research to help test ideas with the product teams, management, other parts of the business, and with customers.

Remain aware of advances in the field and apply them appropriately

Design according to Oracle accessibility standards

The Designer must be able to:

Create innovative designs that conform to requirement parameters

Create positive working relationships with people of varied disciplines

Understand project parameters, technical restrictions, and the broader business use cases that drive product direction

Move with ease between business and technical cultures

Attend to details while managing tasks appropriately with larger goals in mind

Work independently and with teams of varying size, often with individuals in remote locations

Work with the cross-functional team and take on multiple complex UX projects simultaneously

*Skills & Experience


Required:

Minimum of 5 years of experience as a designer including experience designing web applications

A bachelor's or master's degree in design, HCI or a related field or equivalent experience

Solid user-centered design skills and experienced in principles and practices of interaction design

A portfolio demonstrating the ability to develop user interface concepts, create prototypes, and deliver requirements such as conceptual models, storyboards, scenarios or flowcharts

Knowledge of UI development technologies and their advantages/disadvantages

Experience using products such as Axure, Balsamiq, Illustrator, or Photoshop (among others) to produce wireframes and other specifications documentation

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing with a distributed team and to senior management

Ability to understand business objectives and functional specifications and be able to apply those to user interface design

Aptitude for working with technically complex systems

Ability to thrive in a multi-tasking environment and react quickly to shifting priorities

Self-motivated with the ability to plan and work efficiently within a schedule

Ability to consistently apply interaction patterns and visual design details across the product; maintain strong attention to detail

Curiosity

Desired:

Can demonstrate a strong visual design ability

Experience as an active participant in field studies, usability tests, focus groups, expert reviews, customer surveys, and other user-centered design methodologies

Experience with data visualizations and their best practices

Understanding of HTML5, CSS3, and jquery capabilities

Fluency in Section 508, Oracle Accessibility Guidelines (OAG), and other accessibility guidelines as relate to software

Familiarity with hospitality industry, e.g. food and beverage and/or hotel management software and/or processes
