Google Data Engineer and Curator - Nest Business Analytics in Palo Alto, California

Nest is looking for a ridiculously talented and technically adept Data Engineer and Curator to architect the datasets that drive key decisions at Nest. This person will lead end-to-end data projects to deliver scalable, usable, and accurate data into the hands of analysts and decision makers.

This role goes goes beyond pipelines and procedures; our ideal candidate will actively collaborate with stakeholders across the business to understand key opportunities and design solutions.

The work:

  • Design, maintain, and deliver uninterrupted top notch data to business and product analysts

  • Keep a close pulse on the current and future needs of the business to scale data and reporting solutions that meet those needs

  • Discover and implement new ways to continuously improve data infrastructure and reporting capabilities

Minimum qualifications:

  • BS in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Business Analytics or related field

  • 4+ years building ETLs and managing databases

  • 2+ years working with Big Data frameworks (BigQuery, Hive)

  • 2+ years working directly with business or product analysts

  • Experience in SQL and query performance optimization

  • Development experience on ETL tooling in a scripting language (Python preferred)

  • Experience with Git, basic shell scripting

Preferred qualifications:

  • MS in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Business Analytics or related field

  • Demonstrated ability to write efficient and clean code

  • Experience working with data visualization tools (Tableau preferred)

  • Experience working with machine learning models deployed in business settings

  • Able to efficiently troubleshoot data quality and integrity problems

  • Mastery of distributed systems concepts, problems and solutions

  • Able to design projects collaboratively, while implementing independently

  • Detail oriented and able to create concise documentation for a wide range of technical and non-technical stakeholders
