Google Embedded Application Software Engineer in Palo Alto, California

Nest is looking for an embedded applications software engineer to join our ever growing embedded software team. At Nest you'll have to opportunity to shape the Consumer Electronic business, join a world class engineering team, and help revolutionize the next unloved device in our homes. You'll be responsible to architect, design, and implement the heart that makes our future products tick.

The work:

  • Develop, enhance, and maintain the application layer software

  • Work with UI UX teams on the application interface and user experience behavior

  • Interface with various hardware and software vendors on complex system integration tasks to achieve efficient, cost-effective, and delightful product solutions

Minimum qualifications:

  • BA BS degree or equivalent practical experience

  • 1+ years of work experience in C++

  • 1+ years experience with embedded system programming

  • 1+ years of experience working in a multithreaded environment

Preferred qualifications:

  • Strong background in applications design and development for embedded devices

  • Experience with automated testing methodology

  • Experience with embedded system programming, including small-footprint and low-power systems

  • Experience with event driven development

  • User Interface development (user input handling, displaying output, etc.)

  • Network programming in C (e.g. POSIX sockets)

  • Finite state machine design, implementation and testing

  • GNU toolchain (gcc, as, ld, make, sed, etc.) or equivalent cross platform development tool

  • Implementing solutions that are efficient on many levels

  • Experience with code coverage and static analysis tools

  • Build system hacking

  • Experience ARM Cortex-Mx and low-power SoCs

  • HTTP or other application protocols
