Applied Materials IP Technologist for Dielectric Deposition Products - (E4) in Santa Clara, California


  • Collaborates with BU Attorney to determine and implement the IP strategy for the BU, including making recommendations on invention disclosures, patent prosecution, international filing and the IP budget.

  • Drives alignment between Legal, Engineering, GPM, CTO & SBU.

  • Performs detailed technical analysis of BU & SBU patent portfolio for all BU products.

  • Performs detailed competitive IP analysis and supports all BU Red Teams.

  • Supports the BU Attorney regarding various legal assessments including IP sustainability, freedom to operate and opportunities for licensing.

  • Collaborates with the SBU Patent Coordinator in pursuing long-term Residual Value IP goals.

  • Provides supplemental IP training for the BU inventor community.

  • Becomes a Registered US Patent Agent by the end of the second year in the position.



  • Degree in science and/or engineering.

  • 10+ years of experience in the semiconductor equipment industry.

  • 5+ years of technical experience in the DDP BU of Applied Materials (a.k.a. DSM/ALD).

  • Passionate about IP protection for Applied Materials.

  • Interested in switching from a technologist role to a full-time IP role within the same BU.

  • Strong analytical skills - experience in writing long technical reports.

  • Strong communicator - speaks comfortably with all levels & functions in the BU.

  • Strong written and spoken English language skills.

  • Highly organized - proven project management skills.
