Applied Materials Materials Project Management IV - (B4) in Santa Clara, California

Key Responsibilities

  1. Strategic Sourcing

a. Leads supplier selection – Works with product development electrical engineering team to understand product specifications, roadmap and identifies the right supply chain partners with cost, quality, capacity and lead time considerations

b. Provides input to outsourcing decisions by performing make versus buy analysis.  

c. Works with engineering to identify preliminary critical parts, long-lead parts and test and inspection requirements.  

d. Assists and/or leads in developing supplier and commodity road maps

  1. Supplier Management

a. Supplier price and delivery negotiations

b. Forecasts and communicates engineering, materials, and manufacturing requirements to suppliers. Manage supplier capacity ramps as required per forecast

c. Manage supplier cost reduction roadmap

d. Completes supplier risk assessment on critical and unique parts.  

e. Monitors supplier performance (delivery, quality, cost)

  1. Actively mediates and partners with quality and engineering teams to resolve supplier quality issues for assigned product groups.  

  2. Manages materials change control process. Meets cost objectives. Generates and publishes Key Process Indicators.


  • Potential candidate will lead the materials management team for an emerging product.

  • Leads others to solve complex problems; uses sophisticated analytical thought to exercise judgment and identify innovative solutions

Interpersonal Skills

  • Communicates difficult concepts and negotiates with others to adopt a different point of view


Functional Knowledge

  • Experience with high complexity SOC (system on chip) designs and supplier landscape

  • Data center design experience with emphasis on manufacturability, reliability would be a plus

  • Basic understanding of fiber optics components and experience working with laser vendors would be a plus

  • Knowledge of basic mechanical design would be a plus

Business Expertise

  • Basic understanding of the Display Market and Display Equipment vendors

  • Basic understanding of contract negotiations


  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering

  • Advanced Degree preferred

  • 10 Years of Experience
